Why Self-Confidence Matters.
Hands up those who have a lack of self-confidence. That would be me looking in the mirror. I am getting better at acting as if I know what I’m doing but inside my inner critic will be criticizing every action and word.
It can be hard to feel confident sometimes. It’s like this magical thing that sometimes feels amazing and other times it’s just frustrating. But don’t worry, you don’t need any crystals to build up your self-confidence. It’s simple- you can start by recognizing that confidence is a skill that you can learn. You set a goal and take small steps each day to work towards it.
What Is Self-Confidence?
Self-confidence isn’t tangible. You can’t touch it and say, “This is confidence”.
It’s something we get a feeling for when we, or others, have it. Plus, we can recognize when someone lacks it. Even when they try to attempt to compensate for it, we sense it and feel bad for them. Sometimes this shows up as over-confidence which probably means they are trying to compensate for something.
The good news is that self-confidence is a soft skill, which means you can learn it and apply it to your daily life. It’s not fixed, like your height for example. It’s mainly based on your mindset and the actions you do to follow through.
You can boost your confidence and self-esteem by trusting your abilities. Seeing yourself succeed in your mind is the first step in making better decisions. Then, when your decisions make your life better, your confidence gets a nice little boost. And round and round it goes.
Bear in mind that confidence is infectious. Even though we can’t see it, we still sense other people’s confidence levels in the way they behave and speak. As someone who finds it difficult to talk to strangers, if they approach me first and are confident within themselves I can sense it and it is much easier to hold a conversation.
When someone is confident, they exude excitement and energy. You’re motivated to work hard and feel that same energy.
Why Do We Need Self-Confidence?

Self Confidence empowers You to Embrace Your Failures
We all make mistakes. We all fail and meet obstacles in our lives.
The key is to understand that failures are a necessary part of progress. Read that again and really take it in. FAILURE IS SUCCESS IN PROGRESS.
Often, we feel that when we fail, it’s the end of the journey. But that couldn’t be farther from the truth.
It’s important to view failures as learning opportunities. When you’re forced to take a different path, don’t give up on your journey altogether. Just find a way to fix what went wrong and keep moving forward.
So, why do some people succeed after failing and others don’t? It comes down to how well they learn from their mistakes. Those who take the time to analyze what went wrong and find a way to fix it are more likely to succeed in the future.
In other words, they use their failures to their advantage. They use them to prop them up and give them the push they need to keep going on their path.
When you think of Thomas Edison and Michael Jordan, what comes to mind? Most people would say success, fame, or glory. But did you know that both of these men have failed many times? Edison failed to create a commercially successful electric light bulb, and Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team.
However, they both used their failures as stepping stones to aim higher and work harder. Edison invented the light bulb after his first failed attempt, and Jordan became one of the best basketball players in history after being cut from his team.
One of Edison’s quotes about refining the light bulb was, “I haven’t failed. I’ve found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”
Allows You to Take Positive Risks
Developing confidence is a great way to bring balance and direction into your life. Making a conscious decision to work on your confidence will allow you to take positive risks and achieve success.
If you want to be successful in life, you need to develop some confidence. It’s not going to be easy, but it’ll definitely be worth it in the end. You just have to believe in yourself and know that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. Life is all about taking risks and making mistakes—but don’t let that stop you from reaching your goals!
That’s what life is all about – learning from your mistakes and growing as a person. This is what will give you the self-esteem you need to be successful at everything you do.
Enables You To Trust Yourself
Many times, we can be our own worst enemies. We critique every move, every word, and every thought of ours over and over again.
If you want to incentive yourself to do better, try treating yourself with kindness and empathy. But be warned, this method only works if you’re as nice to yourself as you are to others. Too often we forget to show ourselves the same compassion. You wouldn’t talk to a friend like that so don’t talk to yourself like that.
The best way break out of negative self-talk is by having faith in yourself and your decisions–even if you made some mistakes in the past. Remember that everyone makes mistakes; it’s part of being human! So own up to your bad decision, embrace it, and move on. That’s now part of your DNA; it’s helping shape a stronger, more resilient person.
Imagine your mistake as part of your arsenal or superpower. Now, you’ve turned something that once caused anxiety into something that makes you more resilient!
What Happens When We Feel Self-Confident?
Self-confidence can make you happy or miserable! It also affects your relationships and career.
Think of someone you admire, it might be a teacher, friend or colleague. Now ask yourself why you are drawn to them. Often it is the personality they exude. They seem to have it together, and they act as if they are knowledgeable about their topic.
When you walk into a room with your head held high, people take notice. They can sense that you’re comfortable in your skin and that radiates outward. Exuding self-confidence allows you to be more successful in both your personal and professional life as people are naturally drawn to those who ooze positive energy. Not only does having faith in yourself make you happier, but it is a key part of your identity. Knowing why it’s important can help you be happier and more successful. Plus, you can inspire others to be happier when you’re radiating self-assurance. So there you go!
